The incident took place Friday afternoon at the Starbucks on Palmer Avenue in Larchmont, said Larchmont Fire Chief John Caparelli.
"Because of the injuries to her legs and the steep pitch of the stairs leading to the basement, we had to use the sidewalk grate outside and what's called a 'low-angle-type' rescue to rescue the employee," he said.
Firefighters put the woman on a backboard and then used a pulley system by hooking to a tire of a police car parked outside, he said.
"It's the same type of rescue we use when someone falls down a manhole," he added.
The whole rescue took a little under an hour, Caparelli said.
The injured woman was taken to Jacobi Medical Center in the Bronx with non-life-threatening injuries.
